This statement is the mantra of Outbound Heli Adventures, which makes announcing the addition of our own in-house guide program even more special. We wanted to provide even more for the adventurous guests who fly with us. More adventure-driven experiences, more curiosity about the unique landscapes of the Knik River Valley region, and more discovery of Southcentral Alaska, far beyond the usual.
Until now, Outbound Heli has worked with some outstanding guiding companies who have provided exceptional experiences for our guests. Experience Matters: Alaska Helicopter Tours Safety You Can Count On
Every pilot, guide, or crew member of Outbound Heli Adventures is Wilderness First Aid or Responder certified, as well as Crevasse Rescue trained and CPR certified. Additionally, many guides have completed avalanche safety and rescue training, a challenging course that we feel elevates the level of experience required of Alaska guides.
We also realize that many guests have never been aboard a helicopter, much less stood on the icy surface of a glacier, and may feel unsure about the experience. Outbound Heli guides understand this, and have a variety of communication styles to help people not only feel comfortable riding in a helicopter or hiking atop a glacier, but confident as well.

Outbound Heli Glacier Guide FAQs
Do I need experience to go Alaska glacier trekking?
No! Anyone of average physical fitness can participate in our glacier trekking adventures! Please contact our team with any questions.
What are minimum ages for Alaska glacier trekking or ice climbing?
To go glacier trekking, guests must be at least 10. For ice climbing, guests must be at least 16.
Do heli-hiking and paddleboarding have minimum ages for participation?
All ages are welcome to heli-hike, as the adventure can be customized for all abilities or age ranges. Paddleboarders must be at least 10 years old to try this adventure. All SUP adventurers must be proficient swimmers.
Are Outbound Heli glacier adventure guides certified?
Indeed they are! Every member of our guide team is certified in either Wilderness First Aid or as a Wilderness First Responder, and each is highly qualified to lead adventures on Alaska glaciers with crevasse rescue training.
How fit do I need to be to go ice climbing in Alaska?
While you don’t need to be a top-tier athlete, you should be able to participate in moderate-level activities for up to two hours without becoming fatigued.
What is provided on a glacier trekking or ice climbing adventure?
Depending on the adventure, Outbound Heli provides an experienced Ice climbing guide, crampons/harness/helmet, ice axe, mountaineering boots, and all ropes and hardware for top rope ice climbing.
What gear is provided for glacier paddleboarding?
SUP adventurers are provided with an experienced guide, dry suit, PFD, microspikes, paddleboard, and paddle. Boxed lunches are available for $25/pp
What should I bring on a guided glacier trip?
Warm layers are key to a comfortable experience, so a base layer, fleece, hat/gloves, and a waterproof outer layer are important. Also helpful are sunglasses, a water bottle, snacks, and your camera. Lunch is available for $25/pp.
