Fly down the Knik river valley and past the towering Pioneer Peak with views of The
Sleeping Lady and Denali to Big Lake, Alaska, where you will be welcomed at The
Dogstead! Home of respected Iditarod musher Nic Petit and his kennel of lovable
pups. You ‘ll be greeted and shown to your overnight accommodations on the 160
acre property that offers views of the Talkeetna, Chugach and Alaska Mountain
Ranges. Enjoy a night’s stay in a comfortable and cozy yurt…with a woodstove for
added ambiance. Choose between an evening dog sled ride (offered only to yurt
guests) or a morning mushing experience. In the spring and summer get pulled on a
cart, specially designed by Nic for a unique riding adventure, and in the winter
enjoy a snowy ride on a traditional dog sled.

This adventure allows you to choose your number of landings and landing locations: step foot on the exposed ice of a glacier in the Knik Valley and trek with your pilot to explore the many facets of the glacial surface (Moulins, blue pools, and deep crevasses), or land high above in the Alaskan alpine and take in large, sweeping sights of glaciers and rocky ridgelines, choose to land on the shoreline of a massive glacial lake filled with berggie bits and giant floating icebergs, a rocky beach at the face of a dramatic ice wall, and/or let your pilot take you to their favorite landing location! “See the Chugach Range from the air as your helicopter flight takes you over snow capped mountain peaks and braided river valleys to land on over 300 feet of glacial ice thousands of years old! Experience majestic blue pools, stunning, swirling moulins, deep crevasses and dramatic ice formations that continue to fascinate and attract the explorer in all of us when you step foot and trek around the surface of the Knik Glacier. The mighty Knik, one of the largest glaciers left in southcentral Alaska, is twenty-six miles in length and 6 miles across at its toe and is just one of several glaciers in the ancient river valley. In addition to spotting wildlife from the air (moose, dall sheep, spawning salmon, and bears), you’ll have an eagle’s eye view of towering waterfalls, glacial iceberg-filled lakes, and the untouched wilderness of the Last Frontier!
